On June 9, 2025, Shanghai H-Ray Co., Ltd. welcomed the delegation from Bosch Group , a global leader in technology and services. The visit was hosted by Prof. Yang Hui, Chairman of Shanghai H-Ray, and Hu Dalin, Vice General Manager, among others. The Bosch delegation included Mr. Marvin Fu from the Bosch Hydrogen Business department, as well as Mr. Dinser Martin, director of the Power Solutions (Electrolyzer Solutions) Procurement Project and Mr. Tan Li.
The Bosch representatives toured H-Ray’s company exhibition hall, R&D center, and production facilities, gaining firsthand insight into the company’s cutting-edge innovations, MEA production lines, and multiple sets of PEM electrolysis systems currently in production and ready for delivery. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on potential collaboration opportunities in PEM electrolysis technology. The Bosch delegation spoke highly of H-Ray’s R&D capabilities and industrialization achievements, noting that its technological advancements in PEM electrolysis have reached an internationally leading level.
Mr. Dinser Martin introduced the current products, five-year product roadmap, and strategic plans of Bosch Group’s hydrogen energy business in the field of PEM water electrolysis for hydrogen production:
● Product Performance:
The Hybrion PEM electrolyzer stack has a maximum power of 1.25 MW, an efficiency of 50 kWh/kg H₂, and an output pressure exceeding 30 bars, supporting large-scale green hydrogen production.
● Technical Highlights:
Standardized design reduces the Leveled Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), while automotive-grade manufacturing processes ensure high reliability. The system is suitable for containerized deployment and large-scale hydrogen projects.
● Strategic Planning:
Bosch plans to invest €500 million by 2030, aiming to continuously optimize efficiency and cost through a reduction in iridium (Ir) catalyst loading (target ≤0.3 mg/cm²) and the upgrade to second-generation technology (start of production in 2028).
● Market Positioning:
Leveraging its global network of 13 bases and AIoT capabilities, Bosch aims to provide full-scenario solutions ranging from single stacks (1.25 MW) to hundred-megawatt-scale systems, striving to become a technology and scale leader in the electrolyzer field.
Bosch Group emphasized addressing the investment and risk challenges in the hydrogen energy industry through industrialized production, international collaboration, and full lifecycle services.
Shanghai H-Ray: A Pioneer in China’s PEM Hydrogen Production Technology
Shanghai H-Ray is a high-tech enterprise in China dedicated to PEM water electrolysis technology. With independently developed key materials, core components, and electrolyzer stack technologies, the company has demonstrated outstanding performance in both product performance and cost control of its electrolyzers.
The PEM electrolyzers from H-Ray boast the following advantages:
● High-performance MEA with low precious metal loading:
0.8 mg Ir/cm²; 0.3 mg Pt/cm²
● Low energy consumption at high current density (4.1 kWh/Nm³ @ 2.0 A/cm²):
Achieved through innovative MEA structure design and quality control in mass production, significantly reducing energy consumption and improving hydrogen production efficiency.
● Wide power fluctuation tolerance (8%–120%) and high dynamic response:
Suitable for variable renewable energy sources, enabling second-level hot start-stop capabilities.
● High consistency (voltage difference ≤35 mV):
Ensures reliability and long operational lifetime.
● Low oxygen-in-hydrogen concentration:
At 8% power output, H₂-in-O₂ concentration ≤ 0.2%, ensuring high safety and reliability.
Joint Collaboration to Accelerate the Commercialization of Green Hydrogen
During the meeting, both parties engaged in pragmatic discussions on technical synergy, supply chain integration, and market expansion. Bosch Group recognized the potential of Shanghai H-Ray, while H-Ray expressed its desire to leverage Bosch’s global platform to promote Chinese PEM water electrolysis technology worldwide. Moving forward, the two companies will collaborate through joint R&D and resource sharing to jointly tackle the technical and economic challenges of large-scale green hydrogen production, contributing to the global goal of carbon neutrality.
